History of the car

This rare Stanguellini 1100, based on a Fiat 1100 but with an aluminuim body designed by Luigi Rapi (the same designer of the Fiat 8V and the 1100 Trasformabile) and made by Bertone coachworks,a limited production car build between 1947-54.

This elegant Berlinetta, modified by Stanguellini on the basis of the Fiat 1100 and coachbuilt by Bertone, is part of a very small series meant to be used as a Competition Berlinetta in the Gran Turismo class.

The mechanical preparation by Stanguellini not only looks "the business" when opening the bonnet (nice Abarth inlet manifold with twin Solex carburettor set-up, fitted to an aluminium cylinderhead), but also on the road one notices immediatly the panache of this Berlinetta.

The aerodynamic lines and build quality of the Bertone body complement very nicely the sporty character of this thouroughbred Gran Turismo Berlinetta.

In the Stanguellini chapter from the book "La Sport" by authors Andrea Curami & Piero Vergnano we can see a photo from the start of the 1951 Coppa InterEuropa disputed in Monza where 2 identic Stanguellini Berlinettas take the lead.
