​During the ritual Press conference in 1959, Commendatore Enzo Ferrari presented the first (and only) Ferrari engine with less than 1 litre capacity : 854cc exactly.

Enzo wanted to design and develop a one liter GT, although we might speculate that the Suez oil crisis of 1956--which spawned the Mini, the Isetta, and many other small cars--may have started the ball rolling.

​

During a press conference in 1959, Ferrari unveiled a four cylinder 850cc engine to eager reporters. It was, in fact, one third of a 250GT engine, with a bore of 65 mm and stroke of 64, topped by a SOHC and was notable for the fact it could produce 75 hp at 6800 rpm out of the box--far ahead of the era's competition.

Enzo Ferrari himself road tested the first prototype.

Temporary bodywork is derived from a Fiat, but tubular chassis is "made in Ferrari" and designed by Giotto Bizzarrini.

The factory picture clearly suggest that the same blood runs into ASA and Ferrari. They share race experience and Luxury GT ambitions.

 

ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΑ

Ferrarina Tipo 850 (854).

Κατασκευάστηκε το 1959 από τον G.Giugiaro (Bertone)  με εμφανείς ομοιότητες με την Ferrari 250GT (1958) του Pinin Farina.

Βασισμένο πάνω σε FIAT 1200,είχε μοτέρ Ferrari επίπεδο 4κύλινδρο από αλουμίνιο 854 κ.εκ. (ο μικρότερος στην ιστορία της Ferrari για αυτοκίνητο δρόμου) ισχύος 75 ίππων στις 6800 σ.α.λ.Το μεταξόνιο έγινε κοντύτερο κατά 20 εκατοστά καθώς δέχτηκε και τροποποιήσεις από τον Sergio Scaglietti,το σωληνωτό σασί είναι έργο του G.Bizzarrini και test driver ήταν ο ίδιος ο Enzo καθώς διετέλεσε και προσωπικό του αυτοκίνητο για μια περίοδο.

Το σήμα άλλαξε αργότερα σε FIAT αφού πρωτοπαρουσιάστηκε μετά από press conference που έδωσε ο Enzo τον Σεπτέμβριο του '59 με το πρωτότυπο σήμα (αυτόματο πυροβόλο όπλο) λόγο του φλερτ που είχε αναπτύξει με εταιρία κατασκευής όπλων για την προώθηση του project στην παραγωγή,κάτι που τελικά δεν ευοδώθηκε.
